Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

While washing my car, I noticed the outside temperature sensor has become dislodged. It looks like it should just snap in to the plastic ring from behind so that the wire from the sensor goes towards the back of the car, but there doesn't seem to be any way to snap it (see attached photos). Any ideas?

Just put in nose first into the holder until it clicks.

I tried that and there's no click. It just pushes in and its loose in the "ring." There are two notches on the ring (at 12 o'clock and at 6 o'clock) bu no matching notch on the temp sensor.

Mines the same, been that way since I bought the car, it's just loose and no fiddling seems to seat it correctly.

You could try putting an o-ring or some tape around it and see if it will stay put by friction. Otherwise, trying a new sensor is all I can think of.

Well, if it isn't clicking in place, the holder may be damaged. It should just be a push in place. I've replaced mine is how I know. Only caveat it there are two temperature probes that look the same: one is for the ambient air, that goes in front where we are talking. There is another that goes in the engine compartment. That one is 996 606 113 00. It looks identical but will not fit in the holder in the front.
