Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When turning the steering wheel of my 996 at very low speed, I can hear a creaking noise coming from under the dash. It has been established that the noise is actually coming from the right wheel area, probably from the steering tie-rods. Is this a common problem on the 996? What is the source of the noise, and how can it be fixed? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Try lubing the rubber tie rod end with some white lithium grease. Might buy you some time.

POST 3Original post

I had this developing on my car 3 days ago. All control arms, steering rack and suspension are new. I spayed WD40 as high as I could from the wheel to the top of the suspension and the noise went away. Try one side at a time to see which one has the problem.

POST 4Original post

Sway bar links will make that noise too. Maybe u got a bad part? Maybe its one of the other 20+ year old rubber parts?
