Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

While I'd like to jump on the "I own an investment-grade Porsche" bandwagon, the author glosses over important things like the sheer number of 996's that exist and the fact that other less-favored Porsches (928 and others) don't enjoy the halo effect of the air-cooled 911 and other very early Porsches. Even the 912, the "entry-level Porsche" (where have we heard that before? Oh yeah, 986, 987, and IMO Macan) has appreciated - because it's OLD and exists in truly limited supply, whereas the 928 and other Porsches that in my opinion are VERY collectible have yet to enjoy the irrational inflation like older models (356/911/912/914). The 996 is an awesome car. I love owning it. It's like an Ikea bookshelf - it looks nice, it holds up well, it does everything I want it to, and it was a fantastic bargain - but I'm not going to plan my retirement around its appreciation as an asset. Might it happen someday? Sure. If you've watched 914 prices over the past 5 years, you know that even the much-maligned Porschewagen has enjoyed monstrous appreciation. Is it going to happen in my lifetime? Maybe...but it took the 914 40-45 years. I'm only 45, but I'm not convinced I'll be around to see the 996 become truly collectible, let alone a "grail" car like barn-find 356's.
