Thanks. Saw the vid when I bought my Porsche in '06.
Nice video
Hadn't seen that one. Thanks!!
Your aircooled counterparts will probably say the 993 version of the commercial was a better one: Not enough seat time in either gen car to comment on that but I would agree that the 993 commercial is better
Really interesting to watch both videos and see how completely Porsche changed their approach, both in terms of what they were selling and who they were trying to sell it to. To me it seemed like the 993 video was aimed at the Porsche faithful, explaining to them how the 993 was better than any previous 911. The 996 video was about getting non-Porsche drivers into a 996.
Both great videos. The only Porsche that the normal everyday drivers can reasonably afford to drive is a used 996. Many of us on the board are first time Porsche buyers for that reason. I am one of those first time Porsche drivers. I cannot compare it to the air cooled cars or the 997 or newer models of Porsche because I have not had the financial means to own either. I can confidently state that the 996 is faster than it's air cooled counterpart because it has an engine with more Horse power and an extra gear. Other than that, I can only compare my car to the cars I have owned previously and the 996 Porsche is on another planet. I could not imagine any previous Porsche 911 to be better than the car I own. Maybe another poster who has owned a previous 911 can tell me otherwise and specify their reasons. Although I have never driven one, I can also confidently state that the later 997 is a better Porsche 911 than the 996 simply because Porsche produces a newer 911 car to include 'everything Porsche knows so far'. Comforting to know that I own the best 911 up to and including the year 2005. I am now thinking of having a Porsche Emblem tattoo put on my body at the age of 74years. Go figure. My wife says I am crazy. I say I am simply a Porsche 911 fanatic.
I've always liked this technical promo for the 996 Porsche 996 Promotional Video =The Technology(ポルシェ996カレラ) - YouTube

I will contribute $50 to the cause if your tattoo (a) is visible (like on a forearm) and (b) includes the text "It's pronounced 'Por-sha,' jackass." Here's an idea from a Bentley enthusiast...

Wait . . . what?!
OK, now that it has sunk in, I think that would be a swell idea Hurdi. Something classy, you know, like this:
^ Would be awesome if she got a cease-and-desist from Porsche's attorneys...I bet a cover-up on a 2-square-foot tattoo would hurt a bit.
She?

I was wondering why Schnelly thought you were a girl
Prolly will look good, along with the tat he got last year of his niece.
Hello, nurse!
While I won't dispute that this is the culmination of 'everything we know' at the time, they don't point out that they also know how to save money during the production process. There are clear mistakes in production values of the 996 that plague all owners eventually. Now don't get me wrong, I really like the car, and I think it's a good example of what it was supposed to be, but really - when I compare the plastic bits, and the trim to even a well appointed Ford or Toyota, the Porsche brand doesn't really stand out. Plating plastic with poor quality materials, and the workmanship of the individual switches, *****, and levers as well as the porous casting of some engine bits(I will NOT go to the IMS issue, too easy) makes it clear that economy of scale, and shared badge economies was on their mind. For an iconic and brand leading car like the 911, there should have been fewer compromises with the little things that we all dread on the marque. As for this video, the coaching on how to pronounce the car make 'Por-sha' by EVERYONE give it kind of a B-school drama club quality. Sorry. I like the car, I don't care much for the corp image-making stuff. It's my proletarian roots showing through. Pass me a Pabst, and some Cheez-its please.

+1 I actually have the original VHS tape to this... I really like this commercial so much that I play it on my home theater "at volume" which drives the wife nuts. But it's such an awesome video... Patrick Stewart's (Capt. Jean Luc Piccard) voice over is befitting... In fact, I think I'm going to go downstairs and play it right now...

So WHICH car do you Own (though you are in the 996 forum) but it Can't be a 996 since you have a Home Theater AND an Upstairs & Downstairs in your Home
Quotes source post: 12961795
I don't get the upstairs/downstairs reference. 996-wise, I have a 2004 C4S with X51+sport exhaust. Wife and I are both car people so we actually have a few cars - nothing too fancy. Had an 993 Targa which I'm still kicking myself for selling a long time ago to make way for a Boxster S. In the 996 video, I find it amusing when one of the drivers are awed by the amount of torque in the car... Of course, that was like 16 or 17 years ago. The torque in my C4S is laughable compared to my AMG. But my C4S still has a lot more stick to the road, of course.
JD is still struggling with the fact that his home has an inside AND an outside, and that the toilet is on the wrong side.

Thanks Clutch, how do you like it with the x51 with the sport exhaust, can you tell much difference sound wise.

WHICH one of 5 toilets are you referring too
Quotes source post: 12964602
It's a pretty distinct difference. So much so that I would never buy any Porsche again without it; used or new. I like the fact that you can "turn it off". Given that, I do wish that it were slightly louder. People notice that it's a different exhaust and comment how nice it sounds. But it's not loud enough for it be "obnoxious", if you know what I mean. The sound bites that you hear on youtube or the like doesn't do it justice. A lot of it is the "bass" sound that you "feel" vs. hear. So no computer speaker will be able to replicate that.
