Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 2003 996 C4S came with the M680 option, the Bose MOST radio/amp, but not the front-trunk-mounted CDC-4 CD Changer. Is adding that changer a simple plug-play operation (i.e., is the wiring harness for it already in place behind the trunk linings)?

POST 2Original post

You must have one that is MOST bus, not an older one. I have one in my 04 Targa that is not being used as the radio was changed out for aftermarket. My factory setup was CDR-23, BOSE & cd changer make me an offer Look and see if you have the optical connector. I believe it is orange (could be wrong)

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Clarification/expansion of my question: The car has the Bose CDR23 head unit and the appropriate amp down in the trunk next to the compact spare. If the car had come with the CDC-4 CD changer (which is what I'm considering adding), the changer would have been connected by the fiber optic MOST cable to the amp and head unit. The wiring diagram (as best I can understand it) also shows a DSP (I believe that's a digital signal processor) wired into the above combination of audio pieces. So far, do I have this right - and if not, where am I off. And wiring them all to each other (presumably with the fiber optic MOST harness), can anyone describe that harness.

POST 4Original post

Why are you looking to add a CD changer? Finally upgrading your 8 track collection? I'm honestly baffled.

If you have the DSP, it is in the center console. I believe that was an option as an alternative to a BOSE system Yes, the CD is connects via the MOST bus and is a fiber optic cable. Ill look at my CD changer and amp in the morning and see how they are connected together or ??? Since there is only 1 connector on a CDR-23, it either splits or the CD and AMP are in series
