Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My circle on top and the aluminum surround are pretty scratched. I found a cheap on in great shape but the leather is worn and the wrong color. I was hoping that it would just pop out but it doesnt and I dont want to break it. i tried prying up from just beneath the crest and can get under the metal and lift it a little but not much.

Tom I think you need to find a way to pry off that circular piece that has the shift pattern printed on it and there might be a fastener under there. There's a good chance it is just glued on like the normal shifter... You might just need to pry harder. Edit: Here's a photo of the regular ****. Looks like this one is built the same way.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thats what I was thinking as well but it seems very unlikely to get anything under the shift pattern button without damaging the surrounding area.

POST 4Original post

If I was you I replace it with a Black Forest shift ****. I got the weighted aluminum and have made the shifting much for effortless and precise. The leather covered ones would be a great choice if you are ok with the price. Ehhhh Unfortunately they seem to be out of any 996 ***** at the moment. but this place have some variety in stock https://www.urotuning.com/pages/search-results?q=Black%20Forest%20shiftknobs

Yeah, they don't like to let go. I fooled around with one a while back. Have better things to do but if I remember there is a wood screw underneath.

OR you could clean and refurb/color the leather?? Might be an easier and better result
