The nut seemed to need to be tightened�and I�m told there may be a �cap� over the torx�but I�ve been kind of beating on it with awls and flatheads, and thought I better get clearance that I�m on the right path.

Be very careful! Most of the door bolts are metric XZN and require a special bit (not torx). Amazon Amazon

Well not the triple square bolt to the actual door, I'm trying to get the hinge pin tightened. The bottom nut is 6mm, and if you spin it, the whole pin spins.
