Hi guys! Had my 996 C4 cab for a little over a year now. When I got it last fall, the convertible top and clamshell functioned properly. Garaged it over the Indy winter (didnt drive or cycle top at all), and when I pulled it back out in the spring, the top clamshell wasnt functioning properly: When I try to lower the top, the top comes down as it should, but the clamshell only closes halfway and then stops about 1.5 from fully closed (the stop isnt accompanied by binding sound or straining motor noise). When I raise the top back up, the clamshell closes completely, just like it should. All other steps seem to work well (I.e front latch latches, etc.). No visible damage to clamshell mechanism as observed in other posts, and clamshell moves evenly (left and right side move at the same rate) Searched forum but couldnt find exact issue. Because the clamshell closes fully when the top closes, I suspect the issue is not mechanical, but rather electrical: micro switch not making contact, calibration needed, potentiometer issue? Something oxidized over the winter so isnt making contact anymore? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Send me your email and I will send you a DropBox link to a Porsche Tech article that describes the operation of the top in detail. You may have an issue with a microswitch or a sensor.
@Dharn55 i was hoping youd see this - saw all the work you did fixing yours (control module, after all?). Im too new, so wont let me PM you. Can you PM me to initiate? Tks!
There is a separate motor that operates the clamshell and sometimes that needs to be replaced. /X3
It's hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like you also may be missing the plastic "flap" that protects the top from the center latch hook on the clamshell. You'll end up with a hole in the top if you don't fix it. (Or maybe it's just the angle of the photo.)
