So yesterday the speedometer & odometer suddenly stopped working on my �99 C2. Everything else seems to work fine. The LED still displays the correct mileage (at the time of failure). Occasionally the needle will briefly kick up to 4-6 mph while car is doing 40+ Assume it�s a mechanical problem where it�s come off the back of the gauge or transmission or a broken cable?
U need a scanner that can read the abs sensors and make sure they r transmitting. Although i would figure if they were bad u would get an abs code?
What @De Jeeper said. The speed comes from the ABS system to the instrument cluster via canbus.
Wow, first time I�ve ever heard of a speedo not working on the 996.
ABS sensors? My '99 has a LS3 & was built by a prior owner for track use.. There is wiring at the wheels cut off, which I had assumed was the wheel sensors. As I've locked up the brakes several times, I'm almost certain it doesn't have (functioning) ABS.... The speedometer stopped working yesterday (worked perfectly for the previous 9k miles) and, the "Brake Wear" indicator light came on today. So I'll start there. Maybe my car isn't as dumbed-down as I thought. Thanks for the suggestions!
