Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996 is fantastic but in common with most the inner sill on the drivers side (which includes the trunk and engine cover switches and the memory seat switches) is looking a bit scruffy. Has anyone had any success with a solution to this? I was thinking of maybe covering with a wrap style but the existing scuffing, sticking and shaping are potential issues and I am pretty stumped when it comes to refinishing the weird rubberized surface. Suggestions welcomed and thanks in advance.

Covered mine in Alcantara. But you have to get the coating off first. Citrus paint stripper works.

Not much you can do to save the factory sill. It will eventually scuff. Sure you can replace it with another factory sill, or carbon fiber, paint it, or cover it. Either way, it will eventually scuff.

POST 5Original post

The stock replacement comes without the soft touch coating (thank God) and after three years, still looks like new.
