Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I went to Domino's for dinner tonight because I'm lazy [and fat] plus the 2 for $5.99 is an unbeatable deal. The guy behind the counter asked if I was driving a new 370Z, I said it's a Porsche 911. Has the 911 design been co-opted by other manufacturers ? I've bumped into non car people who have told me nice Porsche so this was kind of surprising. I mean you can tell a 911 from a mile away, imo

POST 2Original post

I can tell a Porsche from a mile away but a few cars are starting to intrude on the classic design.

POST 3Original post

Only possibly more iconic might be its (dead) cousin, the VW Beetle.

POST 4Original post

Maybe the "guy" was an idiot and knows nothing about cars.....

I would have said yes it is and then proceed to put the two pizza pies in the frunk where he's expecting the engine to be.

POST 7Original post

Went on a sales call yesterday and I opened the frunk to get some tools. Customer asked if it was electric .

POST 8Original post

🤦🏼‍♂️ The 911 imo is timeless they have carried that curve for so long, I think Nissan has given a nod in styling to the 911 since the beginning of the fairlady model.. also a beautiful car imo.. but i have heard the stupidest comments... is that a miata ... I think its just a little hate .. some people have no clue like they have never seen one and of course .. due to front clip .. boxster...

POST 9Original post

I've though for some time that Nissan 370Zs look like 911s from the rear. From the front...not so much.

POST 10Original post

Last time I was at Home Depot some dude drove by as I was throwing yard bags into the frunk of the GT3 and asked if it was an aircooled. Most people aren't worth talking to.

It would never dawn on me to talk to a total stranger while sitting next to them at a red light, but something about the 911 makes total strangers talk to me while we sit at lights. Also random positive comments from strangers in parking lots, which I have to admit has gone from often when out and about in my 996 4s to almost daily when driving the 997.2 4s. My limited experience shows the 997.2 look impresses the general population more than the 996.2, but being 2 generations newer maybe that's to be expected.

POST 13Original post

I had an older lady say to me she wished her grandson was there to see my car. He just loves Ferraris. Very cute. I just said thanks and drove off in my g. red 4S.

Have no fear. Contrast that to how many times you've heard "That's a nice Porsh! is it a turbo?"

Same, and I like to drive with the windows down for that fresh breeze and musical symphony coming from behind. Just earlier for instance a woman in a newer GTI yelled "nice car!" from three lanes over. Also have noticed the bright red aero seems to attract every domesticated racer in the area. About 5 cars in the 30 minute drive all of a sudden felt the need to hammer the gas and proposition me? Not sure, but that part is really annoying when you just want to take a relaxing drive.

POST 18Original post

Had the infamous "nice corvette" comment driving my NSX. Still waiting for a dumb 996 compliment. But, I admit to saying 'porsh' many times growing up. I'm from the gutter.

POST 19Original post

When I had the 964, I'd get approached by randoms frequently to the point where it was annoying if I needed to be anywhere (which is like 99% of the time). This is in LA where I see Lambos and Ferrari's multiple times an hour on an evening drive around town. The 996 has been a lot more low key. It gets a lot of attention by true enthusiasts at Newcomb's ranch (30 miles up the canyons) but I think I've only had one or two people (normies) say anything around town. I couldn't imagine what it's like owning a Ferrari. I've heard stories that they're a magnet for the masses and getting gas is a chore. I've considered getting a gated 360 but I'm not sure how long I could tolerate being approached by non-enthusiasts. Is that elitist?

POST 20Original post

Was driving slowly yesterday and someone asked me if I had a V8 in the back. Turns out they were right.
