I am having my rear console and horseshoe painted body color but would also like to have the handbrake back cover painted, as it's quite chipped and scratched. Not talking about the handle portion but rather the "boot" part that goes into the console. I noticed there are two screws on the side? Is the cover part removable or do I have to remove the entire handbrake assembly from the car to have the base painted?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That portion of the handbrake is plastic and pops off. No need to touch those 2 torx screws.
Thanks. Going to try to remove everything tonight to drop at the paint shop. But in just fooling around a little, it does appear that the top part of the handbrake body will snap off but the lower part is actually a permanent part of the mechanism?
You can disassemble everything, but you would have to drill out some rivets. It's probably easier to just take the whole handbrake to your painter, and they can mask off whatever you don't want painted.
