Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Friend making me a deal on a 2004 turbo cab 6 speed that I couldn't refuse, only 30k miles. Black over graphite grey with supple leather. Might just be a flip....unless I drive it and suddenly decide to part with my 4s....

Pics required when you get your mitts on it!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First quote to have it shipped in an enclosed carrier from Chicago to NJ came in at $1,795. Can't decide whether to ship it or fly out and drive it home 800 miles.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 18266907

DANG!! Shipping has gone up since 2019!

POST 5Original post

That's not even a question, drive it! It's not even far.

I do have a portable radar detector, might as well put it to good use!

POST 8Original post

I bought my blue Turbo in downtown Chicago and drove it back to Massachusetts. Waze is your friend.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 997.2 was acquired in Chicago and driven back to NJ, with expired plates/registration no less. Except for the time in Indiana it's not a bad drive.

For that money you can fly out first class for your first class, “Why yes Trooper, it’s a turbo”, drive home. And save!

POST 11Original post

You animal, you! Congratulations! With a Turbo cabriolet you've really got a 911 for every (on road) occasion, now.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 18266777

I highly doubt youll flip it - more likely keep it and sell the 4s Fly out drive home - youll be glad you did

POST 13Original post

Thought this was in the works a while ago? Finally, biting the bullet?

POST 14Original post

Congrats! Id ship if it was winter.BUT right now is the perfect time for a road trip in a convertible.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18267321

It was but neither of us pushed to finalize it. Now there's a baby about to be born and he said "my 911 days are over, I need it out of the garage".

POST 17Original post

Fly/drive of course. Take a little time to find some good two lanes on or near your route too. There are some exceptional roads along your general path.

POST 18Original post

Fly and drive, that is rather expensive for an 800 mile trip, I just had one shipped that was just under 3k miles and it was less than double what you were quoted.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A/C screen is defective apparently.

POST 21Original post

Looks great, I think it is the perfect time of year for a road trip home versus shipping.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, fly and drive it's gonna be. Probably another 2 week+, then off to the mechanic for coolant line welding/pinning (plus whatever else we find) and a thorough detailing/paint correction. Upgrading the stereo/navigation and installing radar also on the priority list.

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 18268987

Because "you" I would make sure radar goes to the top of that list...😜

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a portable K40 unit for the 800 mile drive home, "never leave home without it"!

POST 25Original post

Speaking of deals on a Turbo, check out this 2005 Turbo S Cab. Asking $30,900, with 42,442 miles (seems like an outlier, suspiciously low price, but hopefully a real deal). In Idaho. https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/...513329755.html

Can't be real, if it is BUY IT immediately

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 18269206

Last time I saw a listing similar to that with an unusually low price was years ago and it was allegedly in my city. A fellow rennlister was interested in it and I volunteered to go check it out for him. The location was an empty lot! Proceed with caution...

POST 28Original post

Black with old clear bra on the front end? Might as well part it out.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18269433

Yeah I noticed that. What's your professional opinion as to how well the paint can be made to look if/when the very old PPF is removed? In the back of my mind I began to think about putting a black non-matte wrap on the entire car. Not sure what other color (I'd love to wrap it in white) would work with Graphite Grey interior and black soft-top?

100% scam zone Paint code L601 please

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18269648

Funny thing is that if they listed it for $60,900 rather than $30,900 IMO they would actually attract more people.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 18269646

It's hard to say but in the old PPF I've removed, nothing jumps out in my mind that is like oof that is rough. There is always a chance of a slight color variation or lifting of clear coat. I wouldn't worry that much about discoloration as its still gonna be better than looking at old PPF. White would look good, black interior would obviously contrast better but I don't think it would be bad. You could always get some black floor mats to help break it up. I think I would start with some paint correction and go from there, not every car will come out as a show car, it depends on what you are starting with and how the car has been cared for, to begin with. Either way, it sounds like you are working on a good deal so it can only get better.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'll be the car's 3rd owner and I know owners #1 & 2. Neither are enthusiasts to say the least, current owner didn't even know he had the PPF until I noticed it in the photo. It was detailed a few years ago, but center console around handbrake and window switches needs a complete repaint or replacement. Car has an EVOMS V-Flow aftermarket air intake which will most likely be coming off and taken back to stock.

Quotes source post: 18269646

I can't remember what thread it was in but @SoCal911t posted pics of his Cayenne that had a really beat up and cracked old clear bra and it took him forever to remove it, but the end result was great paint underneath. Maybe he can chime in with what he did.

Yeah, I've always thought you should pair a light exterior with Graphite Grey, esp on a cab, but I've got awful taste in a lot of things so don't listen to me
