So I picked up a copy of Excellence's Buying Guide at B&N this past weekend and they had a section on the IMS issue. Forgive me if this is a "no duh" question, but it seems the thesis is that approx 10% (give or take) suffer from this and it will usually manifest itself early in the cars life. So if a car has high mileage, but never had the IMS done, is it "one of the lucky ones"? Can the IMS go bad after 70k, 80k, etc.?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
