Thanks for adding me to the group I have just removed my gearbox on my 2004 3.6 c2 convertible as I have a oil leak turns out its the crank seal. I believe its the three chain engine. I am going to change the ims bearing at the same time i have purchased the tool kit . could anyone tell me should i lock cams at front of the engine as well as the cams next to flywheel as the kit only has one long cam lock tool and one short one. Thank you

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yes, on the 3 chain you MUST lock the cams before you remove the chain tensioner... This is not as important on the 5 chain but is a good pre-caution.. On the 3 chain the long chains go around the intake sprocket 90* and the exhaust cam sprocket 90* , very easy to jump a tooth due to cam-valve spring action, On the 5 chain the long chain wraps 180* around the exhaust cam only and is a lot less likely to jump a tooth...
Thanks so I will need to source a second locking tool without buying another full kit.
