Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently saw a 996 with the early lights and fell in love with them. Ive already backdated my 1999 from litronics to admittedly boxster egg yokes but the tails remain. The amber tails look so much better on these early 996s to my eyes. I wondered if anyone has them and is open to give them up. Im sure Im not the first to backdate a 996. Right? Im also selling off my 987 and 997 turbo to go more 986 / 996 and if I can land a GT3 I am 80% sure it will be backdated to a 996.1 Aerokit. In SY it GR. Heres a pick of what Im talking about

POST 2Original post

Technically if you have a 99 you arent 'backdating' it, you're installing the correct parts back on the car. I have one that has some hairline cracks that you can have for shipping plus a few bucks for the box and the hassle. This way you can try it out and see if you want to go all the way

When you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup . Oh, it looks good on you though.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mines 1/99 and was optioned with litronics which have the clear indicator. As far as I can tell it came with the non-amber tail lights to match. I think I just fell on the other side of the changeover to differentiate from the Boxster. And Im always amused that mine was fully imported from Canada

POST 6Original post

I also like the early amber eggs the best. Rich I

POST 7Original post

Just don't put ambers on a non-early build (9/98 and onward), or you'll be that guy who puts an M3 badge on his 325.

That comes down to production date. My 1/98 build has amber, later 98 and 99 builds had clear (though ive seen some with amber as well) In general, early non-litronic cars got amber for sure, however porsche was a mixed bag in those years.
