My 996.1 recently went through an extensive bodywork restoration and I wanted to share it's incredible transformation. I originally sent it in for what I assumed was mostly cosmetic bodywork, however, once the Aero skirts were removed, things escalated quickly; rear sills, inner sill sections, and a lot of corrosion hiding where you really dont want it. 26 years had taken its toll on the bodywork. I put together a full video documenting the entire process: stripping, metal replacement, fabrication, paint, and final reassembly. There were definitely moments where I questioned whether it was worth saving, but, seeing it finished made the whole ordeal worthwhile. Check out the final results and the full story. I would love to know your thoughts. My Porsche 996 Was Far Worse than I Originally Thought Happy to answer any questions about costs, scope, or what Id do differently.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Wow, I'm scared I will find the exact same thing as you if I start removing the body panels so I do have a question about all 3 things (scope, cost and lessons learned). Since I am in Canada the cost won't be translated/vonverted very well so maybe tell me in hours the effort involved in what you did. Thank you so much for sharing and the final result looks spectacular. Can't wait to see it finished and you driving it. Cheers!
Congratulations on saving a Taco model they are all worth saving 👍 Rich

Thanks for watching and I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment! My rear sills were showing obvious signs that had started creeping up the wheel arch but the front inner sill was a surprise, as there wasn't many obvious signs it was as bad as it was behind there. If you can, take the arch liners out and have a good look around the inside, any major rust should be obvious when you do. Removing the skirts also helps. As for scope... the bodyshop took it in at the start of September last year, and only finished it in January, however, they did have an insurance job come in that took priority during that time but I was happy to wait rather than it being a rush job. I'd ask the shop what potential additional parts you're gonna need, as I needed to get a new rear bumper support bar and new clips for the skirts. I hadn't originally factored these parts in, however, they were pretty cheap and I got them directly from Porsche. Biggest lesson was to tackle it ASAP. I dread to think what it would've been like if I left it another year. Knowing a decent fabricator was also helpful! Cost-wise, from everything I'm hearing from those familiar with the project, it was very reasonable for what was done. For all the work needed, which consisted of all panels painted except the roof and rear lid/spoiler, and the welding work to the rears and inner sill, I was about 5.7k ( 4738.47 for the paint job & 947.69 for all the welding). The parts needed for the job came to about 535. So, all in, I was a little over 6.2k, which roughly converts to about $11.5k CAD. Hope this helps! Fingers crossed yours doesn't need as much as mine did 🤞
