Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A friend is looking at this car. The dealer claims it has a double-row based on the engine serial. It's on Cars.com near Evanston, IL and listed as an automatic even though the pictures show manual. I thought that IMSB inspection was required to determine double vs. single row? VIN: WP0CA2991YS651595

POST 2Original post

Serial number has no bearing (pun intended) on what IMSB is actually in the motor The only real way to know id to drop the trans

Thats what I thought too

POST 4Original post

You could look at the engine serial number. The bearing will be the bearing type (sometimes one of the bearing types) that were in production the year and month specified in the serial number. For instance, my '99 has an '05 engine so no chance of a dual row bearing.

POST 5Original post

For model year 2000, it may depend on the build date. Mine has a build date of March 2000 and has dual row. I'm not sure what the cut-off was, or if there was one. I've heard that some 2001 models have dual row as well.
