Hey folks. Porsche Genuine 996 part prices have escalated. Its been discussed many times on Rennlist that other Porsche model parts are a direct fit in some cases. Any factory suspension, exhaust, interior, exterior and engine parts that are interchangeable between Porsche models would be helpful to know. Especially if cost savings can be had. Hopefully this thread takes on a life of its own to share the knowledge and help 996 owners in finding parts.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The license plate light is VW 1J5943021D. It's a double hit because the price of parts and labor have both gone up significantly.
The parking brake switch is a VW part. Years back when I got a new one for my Boxster, the genuine Porsche version was actually cheaper than the genuine Volkswagen part.
