If you do engine-out service, and install mufflers before installing engine back in the car, be sure to install muffler bracket screws from the bottom up. Otherwise you can't get them out, they hit the body. Ask me how I know... Working on 997, but it all looks the same. Numbers 24 and 25 in drawing, shown from the wrong direction in this diagram.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Pro tip #2) Unbolt the 3 nuts (#16 in pic) holding the bracket to the support- leave the bracket on the muffler and don't touch those long bolts!
Will that work?? Hope I can get at those bolts with the muffler still on. That would save me a bunch of time! Dunno why I didn't think of that! Thanks
Yes to what Dan951 said.
I just removed mine in the manner Dan951 noted. Slipped right out, with a little wiggle. I will reverse those long bolts though, as I think it would be even easier next time to drop them out the bottom and leave the brackets in place.
I've had my mufflers off several times and usually remove the 3 nuts on the bracket. I reversed the long bolts as I had heard that made removal and replacement easier. I really don't see the advantage as removing the muffler with the bracket is pretty easy.
I reversed my long bolt when I had the mufflers off too. Honestly, pulling the entire bracket was no problem, but I figured what the heck. I think that it will be a bit quicker next time just undoing the one bolt.
