Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone. Newbie here. One of my good friends is selling his 2000 996 Carrera. I told years ago that I wanted it when he sold it. It has 80K on it, had a clutch change at 70,000, but for some reason he did not do the IMS at that time. Therefore I am in need of a good mechanic in Houston or the Golden Triangle to do a comprehensive assessment of it before I buy it. He has said that it probably needs (or soon will) some wrench work, and said that he would knock the cost of that off the deal. One -owner, gently used, never tracked or raced, I just need a fair assessment of what needs to be done. Thanks in advance! Gearhead here: Previously did frame-off restorations of Triumphs in the 70s-80's, autocrossed TR-6's, roadraced shifterkarts late 90's for a few years. Currently installing Procharger/cam in my G8 I bought in 2009, my garage queen. This 996 will be a DD for my wonderful wife of 33 years, so I want to make sure it is perfect.
