Not quite sure what you are asking? You have the build date of 4/98 so what else are you referring to in terms of early? 996 production for NA began in January of 1998, so this car would be consider "early". If you want a full break down of the VIN use this site: https://vinanalytics.com/
Mine ends in 670, and I thought it was also a 4/98, what are the chances mine is earlier? Seems like a lot of cars for Porsche to build in a month at that point haha
I guess what number car produced? Is that something found by engine number?
It's fuel injected !!!!

Mine is 620685 and shows a 02/98 build date on the door. I'm that yours is earlier than 04/98 unless VINs were assigned or something and cars went through at different dates.
i had a similar thread/question going on.. someone gave me a good answer. the first 996 builds for North America started in January 1998 the first VIN in that series started with 620061 ( i happened to have 620065). However, there were cars built in 1997 starting in September 1998 for other regions. I'm not sure how many. Additionally, there is discussion on how many were built with the amber lights all around (turn signals, etc.) The consensus seems to be 3-4 thousand but I don't have a good confirmation on that number or what date that ended.. As time goes on, the 'ugly egg' ambers may actually turn out to be a desirable 996 to have because of the relatively low number produced relative to overall 996 production. Hope this helps.

You're the only person I have came across earlier than mine by sequence number. Im 200 also 01/98. Throttle cable, no obc, no tc, getrag 6 speed with mechanical lsd m30, 408 18x7.5 18x10 wheels. It was my first 911 I loved it so much I bought a 997 S and 991 4s the same year enjoyed all of them for a few years bought a few more 996 and 997s to resell. All great cars but have kept my the 1/98 996 car. Its still my favorite for alot of personal reasons, cool to see some other earlier ones built around the same time. I didn't know they started at 61 for the US how did you find out about that? Another cool thing is i have every single piece of paper associated with my car since the original owner ordered it in 97 so theres some cool documents with German factory stamps and signatures, even an updated frunk sticker in the service manual dated stamped and signed done at the factory in 98. Papers from September 97 up to the time i bought it in 2018. The original owner kept everything he got his hands om it seems, Import ,shipping documents to the dealership when he picked it up in 99 really cool stuff too look at you can tell how much he loved it as well. I looked up his name and address a few years ago and found his obituary which mentioned his love of cars and clubs he belonged too most of his obituary was car related which made perfect sense to me and I never met him.
