I have an 02 Carrera 4 cabrio, I drive it year round in MN. Last winter, we didn't have much snow. This weekend I finally spent some time sliding around in the snow, getting more used to how the car handles. I was always under the assumption this these are mostly RWD, but can send up to 40% of the power to the front wheels after a lot of wheel spin. After sliding around in the snow these last few days, it feels like the front wheels kick in much more than I anticipated. When I hit the gas going around corners, it understeers much more than I expected. Just wanted to see what you all think of the handling / driving characteristics of the AWD. Thanks!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. My 997.2 turbo S is a Colorado car now in NYC that’s driven year round snow driving is a blast I’ve driven c4 in bad weather and they make the perfect balance of all Porsches

I was actually just testing out my C4 the other day, and trying some donuts but I was on damp pavement. It took a little more throttle to get the rear to spin around than I thought, but when it did, it initially spun around like a rear wheel drive car. But I stayed on the throttle, and then the typical RWD donut turned into more of an AWD donut in that I could feel the car spinning on its axis. I think what you experienced in the snow is because you were getting wheel spin from the get-go, and so the front drive was engaging pretty early. One of the next few things on my purchase list is a second set of wheels with a set of snow tires, and Im taking this thing to the mountains with my skis strapped to the roof!

That makes sense. I've watched a few videos of Carrera 4's in the snow and it didn't seem like the front tires kicked in very quickly. My driving experience is different than that. I feel like the fronts kick in pretty early. You're probably right, I'm getting the fronts to kick in by spinning the tires too early. With good winters, this has been the best winter vehicle I've ever had!
There's a large difference in load F/R even on an AWD 996. The front end pushing in low traction conditions should be expected. There's a pedal on the floor, on the right side, that should help...
Dan, Wondering what your go-to car wash options are during the winter/road salt months are out in MN? My C4S isn't a "garage queen" but I do hesitate taking it out when there's brine and road salt on the driving surfaces, simply because I prefer to wash my own vehicle and that's not happening in NJ this time of year. Do you take your 911 to a mechanical wash, hand wash or do you have indoor washing facilities at your disposal. Thanks! Steve

I have a paradise car wash around the corner. Previously I had a mister car wash. I go through a few times per week. It's less than ideal as it's not touch less. But... My car has 160k on it and I drive it everyway everywhere. I buffed and ceramic coated it 2 falls ago. It definitely needs it again. There are lots of micro scratches but id rather keep salt off and re polish the car occasionally. Driving it is more fulfilling than looking at it
Word of caution,, the haldex does not like being continuously forced in to its "heavy" semi locked viscous mode, it will eventually overheat the fluid and ruin it.. Ie doughnuts are not recommended
