Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Guys - I was a bit frustrated over the lack of cup-holders that I've found available for this car. While I know there's some 3D printed ashtray options, and some others that clip onto the side of the console, I didn't feel like any of them fit the aesthetic of the car or worked for how I wanted to use them. I drew up some quick designs in CAD and 3D printed a sample. I'm working on getting it quoted out in aluminum. Would there be any interest in these if I had a few made and anodized in black? I still need to work through the fastener, but I believe a thick M6 Thumb screw to drive down below the front seat slider mount would work great and be plenty secure while matching the minimalist aesthetic. I've tried to make it simple to manufacture with just two bends and some "Speed-Holes" for kicks. Thoughts? Also - any metal guys here wanna help me make them or have connections with someone who could make this?

I hate to burst bubbles but it seems this has been made already: https://a.co/d/eGu7Qnh And theres also a similar but more elaborate design from Rennline: https://www.rennline.com/rennline-se...r-sku-sa05-12/

Looks good! I would suggest adding a rib on the bottom plane to keep the holder from bending downward over time due to weight, or to prevent easy bending by inadvertent foot impact. Maybe add a rubber lip inside the hole to cushion cups and avoid rattles... Make it large enough for a standard large size coffee cup or make it really large and include concentric smaller "adapters" to accomodate various cup sizes, since there is no lower resting surface to prevent smaller cups from falling through. If it is to mount below the seat slider, then perhaps design it so it is elevated somehow so it is easily reachable from the driver's area - it looks quite low in your prototype mounting location - is it possible to mount it between the center console and the side trim plate? Good luck!

I think there may be a market for a budget friendly metal cup holder in black Gary

Thanks for the feedback. I actually might pivot and make this out of carbon fiber. I work in that industry, so the pricing wouldn't be too bad. I think I could make it and be at $40 per.
