Common problem in that the external temperature sensor fell back into the front bumper of my 2003 996 C4. However, I assume that there should be a rubber grommet of some sort to hold it in place. This part is missing and I just have an open hole. Can anyone provide me with a part number for this missing piece, or a suggested alternative method of securing the sensor in place please thanks

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The ambient air sensor just sits in a ring that is molded into the front bumper, then the wire passes through the air inlet piece with a grommet there. I think if you order a new sensor it comes with the rubber grommet already attached. See here #18 http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=802-00 You could call someone (Porsche Dealer) to see if it is one complete piece.

Thanks. I was hoping it wasnt integral to the sensor but I guess I suspected it might be. Interested to know if anyone else has found an alternative solution though. I am dropping the car into our local specialist for a major service next month so will ask them if I havent found a solution by that time.
You can always count on Rennlist to be relevant. This just happened to me yesterday.
