Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Found the nice titanium grey '86 R80RT yesterday at a steal of an asking price. Today on CL found and towed home this '86 R80RT parts bike for $200. The used clock/volt age/speedo/tach instruments alone go for $1000. I've been into these Airheads for quite some time - Don't ride much but fun to collect.

POST 2Original post

It looks like that windshield is going to take a few re-finish kits to get back in shape

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that parts bike has been in the sun for years - lots of good stuff to salvage but seat, windshield gone

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

heres my R100RS - lower bars and fairing for sport ride position

POST 5Original post

Sweet. Haven't had time to touch my R100 project due to the kiddos and various house projects. Still miss my '73 R75.

POST 6Original post

Had a 77 R100RS, the bike looks so cool, but I would never own one again. I bought it from my brother, and sol it back to him about 6 years ago, it sits at his business instead of my garage, probably never to run again until somebody dies and it is sold. It's name is "Road King".

POST 7Original post

Good for you keeping airheads alive and running. I have a 64 R50/2 and a 84 R100RS LE and have had several more of them in the past. Great fun bikes at a reasonable price still. Kind of like a 996 eh? Except I can fix the airhead. Marc

i do not like the riding position of the RS bikes - thats why i wanted an RT maybe the young kids who type on computer and never played sports can sit in RS position but my freakin hips/shoulders and wrists absolutely ache leaning forward. and my god damn hip/knee issue make it hard to shift and get my right foot off of peg sitting in RS position heres old photo of my 1964 R60/2 in entrance room of my house - my wife hasn't kicked it out yet

i am sure the airheads will rise significantly in price the next decade - similar to air cooled porsche prices cool R/50!! i sold my R60/2 25 years ago after owning it for a year - it was worn and a good driver. the guy i sold it to restored it to perfection including all nuts bolts - 2 yrs later buyer got into financial problem and sold it to a car dealer about 8 blocks from my house. driving by one day i saw it in the window. went to bank and paid cash. bought it back for $500 less than i sold it - crazy how things happen

got pics??

POST 11Original post

The past: The Present: I actually find the RS very comfortable, AFTER I put K75 bars on it. The RT was very comfortable with an amazing air pocket behind the big fairing and windshield. Marc

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

beautiful RS and 50/2 - like the snowflake RS wheels like my old one whats the difference between the stock RS bars and K75's?? hard to tell but looks like the K bars bring wrist height up about 8"??

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

65 60/2 i bought last year. has the original bags. needs lots of cosmetic work

POST 14Original post

8" you need glasses sir. LOL: The K75 bars on an RS raise the bars about 1" and you can rotate them back a bit. It makes the riding position much more comfortable. The only drawback that i can see is that at full lock you will hit you knuckles on the fairing. Marc

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

if you loo at RS photo, thought maybe you painted the old grip position on the tank for before and after reference looks like 8" diff.

POST 16Original post

Ah I see, That is called a shadow my friend. Marc

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yep - bike looks great in white is that by chance the anniversary model?

POST 18Original post

It is an 1984 Last edition of which 250 were made world wide. They came with a LE certificate, Both two up and singe seats, and a special edition helmet. Unfortunately I don't have the certificate and the helmet but did get both seats. They then did not make any in 85 but brought the R100RS back in 86 with a monoshock rear end and back to drum brakes in front. A lot of people were a bit pissed that they re-released the bike again after the last edition but I have a feeling they were just using up old parts from various things. The 86 to 89 bikes did not have the big carbs and the high compression heads of the 84 and pre models. I think the 77 through 84 bikes had the same engine setup as the R100S bikes. They made R100RT, R100RS, and R100C last editions also in that pearl white paint. It is really beautiful in certain light and glows different colors. I think it might be a keeper.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

keeper for sure - how many miles on it?

POST 20Original post

45K and just barely broken in. OK just one more. Leading the other bikes that could not keep up over trail ridge LOL:
