Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was not pleased with the performance of the idler pulleys and tensioner pulley I bought from FCPEuro in 2022, so I upgraded to a better version from another vendor. In order to return the old ones for the "lifetime replacement" I had to buy the exact same parts from FCP that now cost 50% more now than in 2022. But I figured I would get them for free after they honored the warranty. Wrong. I got a store credit for the original cost, not the replacement cost. So now I have a store credit that wouldn't pay for a replacement, and I have parts I never intend to use. I see why the prices are up 50%. These parts will soon be up on PCA Mart for 50% the current cost.

POST 2Original post

Yup, they raise prices to cover their free replacement and at the same time, Pelican is doing the same, AND at the same time, parts are just in generally becoming 100% more expensive day by day (I've watched it happen at non-free-replacment part shops and parts I waited to buy, and then were suddenly 2x as much). I don't think it's going to get any better any time soon.

POST 3Original post

I never really understood this FCP policy, especially for wear items. For example, you use up your brake pads, send them back and get new ones for "free?" No wonder their parts prices are going up, that can't be a sustainable business model.

POST 4Original post

that's really disappointing. @FCPEuro - this isn't really a "lifetime warranty" if the cost of direct replacement is higher than initial purchase.

POST 5Original post

Not really true. Prices on parts r going up because the cost of parts r going up. Fcp will tell u they have a 6% return rate for their lifetime parts and thats built into their business model. There return policy is very clear and u wont get back more then your initial purchase even as a credit. U get a full refund for what u purchased not unimited replacements for the same price. The nice thing is u can spend the credit on anything

POST 6Original post

How many times does this have to be explained. You always get a credit for the price you paid for the ones you are returning. Clearly spelled out in their policy. I recently returned something that went down in price. What was even wrong with the originals? Did they actually fail? Please explain "not happy with their performance", it's a pulley.

POST 7Original post

Let ask you a question OP is your car the same price as the the day it was sold? a comparable price today is well above a similar build from the past crap always goes up and shyte rolls down hill the trick is to avoid the rolling brown *****

If I had read the policy in detail, I wouldn't be bitching. I saw "lifetime replacement" and thought that was what it meant. As for performance, I probably should have said they started to fail. The pulley surface crenulated. The bearings in them started squealing. I mean I don't expect a pulley to do anything, but then the surface changed and the squeal so out they go.

Roughly how many miles on the pulleys? Just curious.

The old Sebro pulley is in the back and the upgrade is in the front. The one in the back had a smooth finish when I installed it. I call what the surface looks like now, crenulation. but whatever the right term is, the pulley started out smooth. Both idler pulleys developed a similar textured surface. Just in case you are thinking maybe the serpentine belt did it, the belt was new and it was a Porsche part.

Looks like some kind of residue. Is it actual material failure of the pulley?

POST 14Original post

Source for pulleys please (the metal ones). Thanks

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's not residue. It's the surface of the pulley. They both looked like that. Like they partially melted. And since the next question was am I in the desert or does my engine run hot? No and that temp gauge stays right where it is supposed to.

The good folks at Rauch & Spiegel. Porsche 986,987,996,997 Premium Billet Aluminum Drive Belt Pulleys - Rauch and Spiegel I bought them at Pelican but they don't have images on Pelican so if you want better information go to the source above. They aren't cheap, but now they are only twice as expensive as the OEM instead of 4x. One more thing I forgot to mention, and I don't know if it was related to the pulley crenulation, but the serpentine belt, also only 2 years old, had started to fray, but only after the crenulation had been ongoing.

POST 17Original post

I got metal pulleys from Autoatlanta for.my 3.4l. They had several options and 1 was metal.

Interesting. Im looking at pics of when I installed the Rennline Airbox and you can barely see the side of the pulley and luckily it looks smooth. My original one exploded while driving a little hard.
