Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Cute, but lots of erroneous/hearsay information... Nice, but take it with a grain of salt (or pepper if that's your thing...)
Dporto, As I wince every time I see the horrendous mess my engine rebuild is making of my bank account, it's just nice to hear something positive for a change especially as I have the "coveted" 4 spoke steering wheel, true descendant of the air cooled cars, early 996.1 with Fried eggs and all. One day I will get to drive mine and remember why I bought it. One day.
Hang in there. The early 996 is a great car! When is your car ready again?
Soon, as long as we find nothing else wrong.

Oooo... I feel your pain!!! Mine's a 996.1 (C4) as well (that came with the coveted 4 spoke - which I since changed out to a three) They're great cars with some (with emphasis on some) inherent engine problems. While I think that the problems are generally overblown, it's little consolation to those that experience them. Good luck with the re-build and remember it's only money - you'll make more!

I've corrected that for you Yeah, looking forward to driving it once its finished. Unfortunately thrust bearing failure coupled with the "while you are in there" syndrome has pushed this rebuild in to the stratosphere. Real shame is all the shiny bits that cost the big money end up hidden in the depths of the engine.

FWiW, I went through this expensive process years ago, proactively, not in response to failure. All of the while you're in there stuff was a bit of a body blow to the wallet. But now, 3 years later, it runs so sweetly that you MAY forget about all the aggravation. So there is that to look forward to. Good luck
Thank you, looking forward to my happy ending.
