Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So let's say you're driving along a road that has a speed limit of less than 75 mph and your spoiler is in the up position since you briefly hit the magic number... do you think the police know you were speeding at some point or is it only Porsche owners that are aware of this feature ?

One could also raise the spoiler manually at any speed so this has no bearing on proving you were going above 75 mph.

POST 3Original post

The nice thing about my old 996 was that you could see that the spoiler was up, not so on the 997.

That's some My Cousin Vinny type stuff right there...

POST 5Original post

I don't think CHP keeps a database of deployment speeds for all vehicles. Further, since you can manually deploy the spoiler, this is no evidence that a crime was committed...

POST 6Original post

I know for a fact that SOME cops do indeed know when it comes up...

A cop doesn't need the spoiler up to know you have been speeding at some point. That fact you are in a Porsche is sufficient. In fact the fact you are in a car is sufficient as studies have found most drivers at some point or another drive over the limit. The times I've been pulled over in my Porsches the radar gun alarm was the telltale. The officer didn't say anything about the spoiler. If I get pulled over and the officer tries to use the spoiler up as justification I'll just tell him I raised it manually and left it up. Also, once in a while at least in the Turbo I have accidently raised the spoiler when I hit the wrong button on the dash. Might mention too in the case of my Boxster the spoiler goes up at 75mph indicated but actual speed is 70mph. And in the Turbo the spoiler goes up at 75mph indicated but actual speed is 72mph. I don't worry about the spoiler. I worry about my speed.

POST 8Original post

Most people around here drive in the 80-90 mph range on the interstate (I-95 and worse - I-4). I don't worry about the spoiler being deployed, I worry about the other drivers around me. Usually on the phone.

Another excuse is that if the engine is running hot, the spoiler will stay up and not retract to allow more air into the engine bay.
