I'm new to the Porsche world. I like the 911 for the style. When I look at the pricing I see a very wide range and am looking to educate my self as the why. Is there a concise place to understand this, or is this a many beer education that I must understand from a "professor" of all things 911. Or as some will likely say should I just leave? Cheers

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Definitely don't "leave", but maybe tell us what "style" of "911" you are interested in? There are quite a few.. -Cam
09mageec, I agree that a bit more information would be helpful. For example, are you looking for a classic air-cooled 911 or one of the newer water-cooled Carreras? How much are you looking to spend? Any unique needs or wants? There are a lot of 911 variants available; this specific forum deals with all the air-cooled 911's that were sold between 1964 and 1989 . And yes, there is a lot to learn, but then that's why you are here. We are glad to help, but just saying your interested in a 911 is a bit to broad. Many of us could literally write a book on the "911".
As pointed out by 09mageec, I see I am in the wrong age category. If this thread should be moved so be it. I like the 2000 and up style. When/if this style range ends I do not know. As for price, the $20 to $30K range. I have been looking at the BAT site. Maybe some of what I am seeing is the range between a realistic selling price and a dealer exaggerated asking price. For example: BAT 2001 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...911-carrera-9/ Ebay 2001 https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2001-Porsche...8AAOSwytJaBhpA I see the difference of 30,000 miles. Is the BAT car past or at a mileage maintenance point?
A great educational resource for you may be Excellence magazine . Specifically get a back copy that discuses the valuation, features and pros /cons of the years you are exploring. You can order back-copies from their website. There is a lot of knowledge available on this forum and other forums. It took us years to get " smart," take your time in your hunt and remember it's more than looks and shape of the car. Every " 911" performs differently and has a different connection with the road and the driver. Good luck in your search..
The "2000 and up style" you speak of, although sold by Porsche as a 911, is known in the Porsche community as a 996 (designation). These cars were sold between 1999 and 2004. Finding a 996 should work out in your favor given your price range, as these cars aren't really appreciated like some of the other 911s before and after it. This in no way means it's a bad car, or that I'm trying to deter you, but rather me telling you to do your research on them. There is another sub-forum dedicated specifically to the 996 designation, and you're better off posting over there. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum-60/ Good luck with the hunt! -Cam
