Well the 2001 996 C4 Cab went to its new owner today. I drove it almost every day for close to three years. (depreciation cost about $300 per month) I had no RMS issues, no engine explosions, no transmission problem. For the most part it was extreemly reliable. Only issues were the usual MAF and O2 sensor replacement, the plastic rear window delamination, the coolant bottle crack, and ignition switch replacement. (mainly DIY's thanks to this site and Renntech) It drove sun or rain all year, with the kids seat in the back for my Son. I took it to PCA AX events and to a few PCA DE days without issue at all. I learned to drive this car more in 3 years than 5 years of NSX ownership (again due to Rennlist). I got to do my own repairs and was not afraid to get the wrenches out and work on it myself (and no get ripped off by dealers) I learned how to detail it more professionally and make the paint look great (rennlist again!) You guys also spent my cash on PSE and other minor upgrades, but made my daily commutes so much more enjoyable. I'll be on the 997 side now as i have a new (to me) 05 C2S Cab. Here is a picture of the boys together Already side markers are installed, new Sonus leather cleaner is delivered and enquiries for Tubi are out... here we go again

NICE! Does it feel any faster?
996C4 Cab - 997C2S Cab - that's the way to go! Congrats and enjoy the new to you beauty in good health! I'm sure you won't miss the AWD too much.
The C2S feels like a TOTALLY different car. I'll try to write up something on this. Ive driven it home and to work for a few weeks but not pushed too hard yet. The looks are VERY different when you see them back to back. Here are a couple more pics A few quick thoughts: Brakes are incredible on the 997 Shfting is also a lot tighter. Its much, much more stable on the freeway. The sound is very different (soon more with the Tubi:-)) The power isnt as smooth on the 997... you can really feel the variocam at about 3-4k revs on partial throttle, esp in 1st gear.... but it seems much faster. It seems to "feel" the road like the 996 never did, the ride is better than the 996 but also tighter The interior is vastly better on the 997. You dont really notice some of these until you switch between cars every few days.
Congrats - the 997 looks beautiful. I love that ***. Once the mortgage biz rebounds I'll make the exact same move from my MY01C4 cab. How bout' some interior pics please?
Actually - YOU made ME spend my cash on PSE, Karl! Thanks very much. Picking it up today and will let you know how it sounds. Best of luck with your upgrade.
Congrats, Both are sweet, very good taste!!! Have fun with the 7.
Here is the interior pic of the 997S Black full leather
Beautiful 997, congrats. Your observation about the 997 vs. 996 should be have a caveat that the cars are 6 years apart. My 2004 C4S is much nicer than my 2001 C4 for a lot of the reasons you mentioned above. Rob
Hey Riad, My comments werent supposed to be negative about the 996 in any way. It was a great car :-) and reliable too. My wife didnt like the color or the plastic rear window on the 996... so what could i do but upgrade to keep her happy. The 997 feels very different (still a bit scary in some ways). It feels much more powerful. They are all good though :-)
-i like the interior styling of my 996 better than the 997tt i was in and it was outfitted nicely -touch quality is better in the 997, it's jus tighter, more audi-like -only the 997 GT1 engine cars would make me appreciate the upgrade and oh yes, the carbon-ceramic brakes are killer period in the 997 series that i wish my 996 c4s had -the 3.8 engine does feel faster than my 3.6 on my slow4s, but didn't blow me away at all - the TT is where it needs to be for me to say ok i see where the money went

I know you weren't trashing the 996. My point is, the newer 996 models have updated interior and exterior, glass rear window, more power, etc. so I didn't want to lump all 996's into a single group. Either way, the 997 is still better than the 996 even comparing the 997 to the newer 996 - just not as MUCH better.
Congrats Doc, now get the hell out of the 996 Forum! Just kidding! You can come back here and go "slumming" any time you want. I am on the 997 Forum a lot and to be honest, the guys here (996 Forum) are more laid back and much more fun! Don’t let the 997 guys turn you into a "stuffed shirt."
Nice sled...enjoy it...a nice progression thus far. J
Hey Karl, Finally popped the PSE onto my 996. Wow. Huge difference. I almost worry my neighbors will complain. Ahhhh...screw 'em.
Hey Loren, Glad you like it :-) I remember when i installed this. I had to baby sit during the evening so i took the monitor in the garage and spent the evening under the car. I couldnt resist firing the car up afterwards (risk waking the little guy), and i still remember the great burble sound and how different it was from stock. I couldnt wait for the morning to take it for a run and really hear it at redline :-). I would downshift every time i saw an underpass or tunnel or bridge. And we have a long freeway on ramp with concrete barriers that sounds just awesome. Its not really that loud, especially if you dont give it too much gas. After i removed the PSE, the car just wasnt the same... really muted. Oh, i dropped the Icelink manual into the mail earlier in the week. I found it in the 996 owners book when i sold the car. Sorry

the beauty of the pse is... just light on the throttle and you're good to go.
I think the interior of the 996 is nicer than the 997 "retro" look. A squared off dash doesn't belong in such a rounded car, IMHO, of course! Other than that, the 997s is a very sweet car! Good luck with it!

Thanks! Drove by my kids playing soccer with my neighbor's kids, blipped the throttle...neighbor's kid says to my kids, "Your dad is cool!". My 11 year old gives me 2 thumbs up and a big smile... If I had known it were that easy, I would have made the switch a long time ago...
