Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, new member here from Australia just bought my first Porsche (996 cabrio manual). Loving it! Want to stiffen the gear lever a little as its got quite bit of play side to side. Wondering if my pics show a stock shifter? I ask because a friend sent me pic of his 996.2 (mine is .1) and its different to mine. (His is stock) can I also get advice wether its better to keep my shifter and just do Function first shift kit or is doing 997 shifter better upgrade ? thanks guys!

thank you for that. if anyone recognises it, id love to know what i actually have haha also i am guessing the function first kit will be suitable to get rid of the sloppy play EDIT: the more i look at it, it looks like the short shifter kits online (usually blue in colour) except mine isnt blue..

To know for sure you need to remove the shift boot and look underneath, take a pic and post it here, someone will know exactly what you have.

If you want to spend some money the 997.2 GT3 RS shifter with the aluminum bushings is very tight and shortens the throw 15% from the stock unit but will be longer than your current setup. The issue I found the aftermarket short throws was eventually my car started to grind going down into 2nd from 3rd and I spoke with Stan at GBOX about it and the first thing he asked was if I had a non factory unit. No issues since I went back.
