Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, I know. CarFax isn't the best source of information, but I think I can trust it if it lists a problem. (But not if it doesn't!) Anyway, I ran a report and it looks like the CarFax listing itself is different. It no longer lists how many owners there are? Anyone else notice this? Now within this listing are references that don't make sense at first glance. For example: 01/09/2003 Massachusetts ------- Vehicle purchase reported Motor Vehicle Dept. Oshkosh, WI What the heck does Oshkosh, WI have to do with the Massachusetts DMV? Later on it says the car was registered as a lease vehicle. Does this explain it? Thanks! tom

Yes...I've seen that scenario before. It means the owner lives somewhere, and the Leasing company is somewhere else.

Sorry to be somewhat off the main topic, but since you mentioned the above, Here is an article where a person bought a "Certified" car from GM and found out that it was pieced together from two cars, and CarFax search found no record: "A Carfax inquiry run in April on the vehicle identification number for the front of Ms. Days Monte Carlo showed no problems." http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/06/au...pagewanted=all Can you imagine that: buying ONE 996 and finding out that you got TWO HALVES from different cars instead? Leave it to GM to come up with this kind of a screaming deal....

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
