having just bought my 2001 C4 last week, I have chosen for my first mod (though not a performance mod) to tint the windows. The car is black and the mass of black from the side will be a real enhancement to the design. Also, I prefer to not be seen inside. I am looking for any tips on tinting. I will have a tint shop do it, but what type, percentage or level of tint is ideal. The car is registered in New York State so if anyone knows if there are any legal issues with tinting...do tell.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Tint Laws: http://www.tintlaws.com/
tint makes the car looks meaner.... but you gotta watch out for the tint laws,.,,,,
What tint % do people find works well on their black pcars rear windows? Too dark looks stupid. Too light is ineffective.
Thanks for the responses. I checked out the links and got all the info. Also found that dmv has a site with guidelines for tinting. ciao.
I think even % all the way around looks best. When tint was first available people had a tendency to go for the darkest (legal limit) rear vs. rear available. Looking back, and on cars done this way today, I now think it looks odd and disproportionate. IMO 35% all the way around is the way to go. That should be rear vs. front
I live in new york also, 70% is around the legal limit and looks terrible. I have 30% on my black 996 and i like it, let me know if you want pics.
Id go with 20% if you dont want to be seen but dont want to be OBVIOUSLY breaking the tint laws... 20% is still illegal but if you were to get pulled over, if you roll down both ur windows enough light usually can get in for it to not look illegal.
aero996. I'd love to see a pic before I make the choice. I'm leaning toward 30%. Please post. thanks again.
Tn. laws: 20% on back & rear --- 35% on front and front-sides I prefer tint, for privacy & UV protection. They really don't check for the tint around here. I got 20% all the way around. Plus my brother-in-law & his family ARE the police...lol
jugger- totally beautiful. I also love the black carrera lettering on the back!
Wondering about the rear and side rear windows in the GT3 with the roll bar and rear window heater. Looks to be an ugly install. Don't know if I should even consider a tint job. Anyone looked into doing this? I have a bit of a job on my hands, just washing the rear windows with all the pipe in the way. Any ideas as to cost of a quality tint install? Is one product better than others? Etc., ........etc. Tnx
35% is the law in WA for all windows save the front which cannot be tinted. I have done 20% is the back before on other cars, but it's hard to back out into or out of anything at night. You really can't see much. However, with 35%, I still have to flip the rear view mirror to night-mode when an SUV is following; a lot of light still gets through. Get high quality 3M or Llumar tint film, otherwise the stuff fades to a blue/purple eventually.
Just had huper optik 30 applied. The spec says it's 34% light transmission. So far I'm satisfied with the product. It looks good and blocks a tremendous amount of heat. I can give you an update in a week after I've had a chance to drive both night and day. $407 with the tax.
Ditto. HUPER OPTIK is the film of choice. You can also look at their "select" line which includes products called SEC and DREI. DREI is similar to the ceramic but is "bluer" while the Ceramic 30 is a bit "greener." The DREI is more expensive but cuts out more of the infrared heat which is a good thing for a car! Good luck.
