Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In the very back of the car, along the carpet, there's a trim piece about 6 " tall and as wide as the interior. (right under the rear window) It's the piece in these pics where the material is peeling back. I'm going to take it off and have it recovered, anyone know how to get it off without breaking it? ELI5 please! (Explain like I'm 5) And also, does hot air come out of those vents? Where from? I'm wondering why it baked the material back there, or at least it seems to have.

Really? No one has a clue? Come on guys, someone does...

POST 3Original post

I'll give it a shot....pull it off. It has clips that snap into place so all you have to do is pull it off. There are no screws or brackets or something like that. Maybe start with one side and work your way across. #1 and #2 here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=807-05

Thanks! That was easy, I ordered the part from Auto Atlanta. Thanks DBJoe!

POST 6Original post

I could be wrong but I think those are exhaust vents...meaning when the car is all closed up and the HVAC system is on, air has to escape from the cabin somewhere.

POST 7Original post

If so, I guess they are not on 996.2s. At least not on mine.

Mine is a 996.2, it's an 03, and it has them.

POST 9Original post

OK, I stand corrected. Mine is 2002 C4S and I don’t see them. Maybe the sub woofer box covers them?

POST 10Original post

It clips into the back of the car, from the sides pull it directly towards you and it will snap out.

I did that and all but two of the metal clips broke! But it's reusable, I just need to find a place to get it recovered first.

POST 12Original post

Why don't you just get some 3M spray adhesive and stick it back on (just follow the directions - it's a "dry mount" type glue)? It also looks stained like it might have gotten wet at some point (hence the peel...).

Because the the leather had shrunk so much there was no way to stretch it back.

Re-wet it, stretch - let dry, re-glue, re-finish... where there's a will, there's a way

Thanks for the DIY explanation, but I'm taking it to a pro this afternoon to see what he says. Maybe he'll just say to wet it and stretch it!
