Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The Road Trip questions thread got me thinking. Why not compile a list of some good long-distance drives for various parts of the country? I would imagine Porsche owners as a sample group probably tend to be very well traveled, so how about passing along some suggestions for the group? Personally, I would love to hear some for the SE. I've driven to FL plenty of times (Pensacola, Panama City, Gainesville, Daytona Beach) and to PA for my wife's family visits, but most of my other drives are within GA. Share the wealth, guys!

Doug, First of all great topic, I am always looking to for a great spot to stretch the legs on my 996. I sometimes travel on business and would enjoy experience some roads in a rental.LOL I would like to post a stretch of road that encompasses the NJ/NY state border. The locals call it Hawks Nest which I understand has been used in commercials for BMW and others. It runs right alongside of the Deleware River and has many scenic views. A great meeting spot to start off this journey is in a state park called High Point located on rt22 in NJ. Pics

POST 3Original post

wow.. I didn't know NJ/NY were capable of having decent roads

POST 4Original post

I have been on that road...Ok not in my Porsche but on my Bike, It was awsome on the bike, I remember thinking as I looked down at the speedo, was **** that will hurt if I come off. The next thought was I cant wait until I take this in the Porsche

Southside of Chicago (Michigan avenue) at 2 in the morning with windows open cruising in frst gear blasting Eminem out of your speakers. It would be a story of a lifetime. IF you make it back home.

The ones around here I like to do: The Sea to Sky highway up to Whistler: The North Cascades Highway: Highway 101 down to Frisco: Through Redwood National Park Taking Highway 4 across Vancouver Island to the end of the road in Tofino and Pacific Rim National Park is incredible too, as long as you don't hit any snow.

Wow, great pictures Rob & Alex! Alex's 3rd picture and Rob's 101 could easily be posters or post cards. I'm thinking of taking a long weekend (4-5) days and doing some driving once the weather gets a little better. FL would make a good stopping spot, but its so flat and boring (south GA too) I don't imagine any good drives. North through the Blue Ridge Parkway would be nice - maybe across the Dragon ( www.tailofthedragon.com )....still working on ideas.

POST 8Original post

Rob, Now those are proper road trips. Unfortunately, all mine have ever consisted of has been 4-lane straight highways... ugh

POST 9Original post

Doug, I have wanted to do the Tail of the Dragon for sometime. There has been some talk of local DC Porsche Guys taking a long caravan down in the spring. I hope I can make it and post some photos.

POST 10Original post

Jon, You need to get out of manny and head up to the hills...this is what I PM'd you about but still in the works.

POST 11Original post

Actually lake shore drive at 2am is much better. And hey.. I live on the southside...

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

JSA - I have done the Dragon before, but only in my MINI. We're probably going to go up for the MINIS on the Dragon event in May even though we don't have the car any more - just to hang out and drive it. If there is a piece of road that will expose your driving flaws, this is it. For anyone not familiar, the Tail of the Dragon is a section of Hwy 129 at the TN/NC border that boasts 318 curves in 11 miles. And best of all, there is a team of photographers who cover it every weekend - you can buy hi-res copies of your mad skillz, or your "violations" (crossing the yellow). www.tailofthedragon.com www.killboy.com

POST 13Original post

Rob, nice pics. I go to Whistler at least once a year and the sea to sky highway is one of my favorite drives... unless they're doing construction!

POST 14Original post

Hi all, I'm off to Scotland tonight for a weekend marathon of driving. Should get in over 1000 miles in the weekend. Sadly over 500 miles will be motorway (freeway) but the rest should be a twisty as you like, just follow the least straight line on the map. Can't wait, people at work think I'm mad but they don't have P! Mav

POST 15Original post

Well, those pics are spectacular. As for a road trip, I will be flying out to GMG Racing in Santa Ana (just south of Los Angeles) this Thursday to pick up my new toy, a Silver '99 EVO Supercharged C2 with GT3 Clutch, lightweight flywheel, CarGraphic 200 Cell High-Flow Cats, CarGraphic Hi-Flow Muffler, H&R coil overs, 19" Black TechArt, Full Factory Aero, etc. After pick-up and a couple of days in LA-Santa Monica area, I will be driving it back to Little Rock, Arkansas (please, no jokes about the redneck from Arkansas owning a P-car). I'll try to take many pics on the very long trip back across the Western U.S. Unfortunately, the time constraints will mean long stretches of I-40.

POST 16Original post

Gravedgr, since you're near Tennessee you should make it a point to go through some of the backroads around Chattanooga, Winchester, go visit the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg. Tennessee has some truly GREAT roads such as Tennessee State Rd 64 which is a nice curvy drive as is US 231 north of Fayetteville. 110 out of Ardmore is also a good one. Dang this is making me homesick.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sounds like a good idea, K996. I'm always looking for weekend getaway drives!
