Anybody tow anything with thiers? I have to go 1700 mile to pick up a small boat but don't want to drive the SUV for such a small load. Flame on, but I want to drive the porsche ...so much more fun and faster could knock off 8-10 hrs of driving on the way there. Not much time saving on the way back but the mileage would be better too.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You must have seen this before ...
Hitch
drive there...ship it..... and drive back.....3400 miles of pleasure.....hitching it with a Porsche....wouldn't do it.
There is reason for this....
That has to be a PS job.
I've seen a few Carreras and Boxsters at the track with this hitch towing a Southsport Tire Trailer (carries 4 wheels and an aluminum diamondplate toolbox), very lightweight, but more importantly very low tongue weight. Really nothing to laugh at....no more so than people putting tires on top of their roofs.
I have the Twin cities to Chicago covered, then Chicago to Louisville. From there I can pick it up in only a three day round trip. So...anybody from Hackensack, MN to Twin cities? Isn't the internet great?
1) How heavy is the boat? 2) How heavy is the trailer? 3) Will the trailer have brakes? As someone posted there are folks who put hitches on 996/boxsters. These bolt to the rear bumper (the metal under the bulbous plastic). Europeans love to tow with just about anything. I assume the boat is small, the trailer light and that, yes, your 996 could pull the boat. The real question is why. Between the cost of the hitch and, potential wiring, you could have someone else transport the objects to you. If you do tow the boat with the 996, post some pics! Oh, and be careful on those boat launch ramps... I'd hate to see the water swallow up your car
