Just purchased a used 996. Mode Year 1999, 6 speed. Is there any way that I can tell if it has been chipped? Change in redline governor? Can the dealer tell me with a scan tool. Would love to know if it has and who's it is. A long shot I know. Thanks, -Paul

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

You'll pay the dealer for the priveledge of hooking up their PST2 or PWIS system to it but you can get a really good readout.......over revs, etc.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
