O.K. so i've decided to forego the high mileage 996 with RMS issue, extend my budget to the absolute limit and try and find a car with an existing warranty. I have located an 02'Targa with 31K, major service just completed, Xenons, new P-Zero's, sport exhaust, full leather, sport seats, etc, and it's within 150 miles of where i live so i could inspect it personally. Car is located in Grand Rapids, MI. Asking price is $47,900.00. Any thoughts or comments on this model/price would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bob

the price is right IMHO, appearnce and PPI should be deciding factor
Sounds like a great buy... I love the Targa, would have bought one myself if I'd found the right one. As perspective, I was within about an inch of buying an '02 with 27k for $52k just about 6 months ago.
I agree, the Targa is a great looking car. Was informed that the Cab pretty much caused the demise of the Targa, and as a result resale on Targas might be lower. However, if you buy at the right price... I debated purchasing the Targa but decided I really wanted the "full convertible experience"( 2002 C4 Convert, 2 weeks new to me). I agree though; price seems to be fair. Based on reading other threads, as well as personal experience, DO NOT BUY UNLESS CPO!
O.K. so i've decided to forego the high mileage 996 with RMS issue, extend my budget to the absolute limit and try and find a car with an existing warranty. Very prudent approach. You can talk to Bob about the pitfalls of getting a great deal on a Porsche. BTW $47K for a decently equipped '02 Targa is right in the ballpark. I wouldn't be surprised if they would take $45K.
Hey there, that price sounds good, I just bought an 02 targa, silver, with all the options you mentioned and new pirellis, but I paid 52,000 , had 27,000 miles here in California, I love it so far!!
Look at the seal grey Targa on Ebay 02 for 42K!
Sounds like a fair price to me....
sounds like a great deal .... good luck!
price is great. Is this from A porsche dealer or from the cars owner.cpo would be inportant factor, ppi also very important. You can eat up your savings fast if something is not right.so take your time.
Can't comment on the pricing in the U.S. (although noticed your location does say Ontario), but I can tell you that the Targa is a blast to drive. Great open air feel, you almost get the full sound of the exhaust and the hatch is very useful. Easier to lock up too. Interesingly, with the top fully open and the windows down, there is no inside air shudder-type noise that I experience at highway speeds with the sunroofs in my other cars. I toyed with a convertible, but not so many great days here...and from my last (non-P) convertible, my other half never wanted the (car's) top down. If it all checks out, go for it. Great car, you'll love it.
there is an 02 on ebay for about $43K ...I think it has high miles though
Love The TARGA ! It's been almost three years and PERFECTION. I love the fact the I can drive all year around with the Large Class Roof Open, As My Son Says "TOO DAM COOL POP" The Price is good, Go For It ! Best of luck.
sent you a PM ....
Porsche said I could keep my leased 02 for 50k with 24k miles. I let them have it back. I miss the roof sometimes, but I had issues with the hatch. Wouldn't close everytime and the dealer wouldn't fix it. I would go for an 03. Good luck. Brian 06 C2S
