Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2004 911 Carrera; got it with trhe engine out and apart. I am assembling top end on a porsche shortblock. Working on Bank 2, egine at TDC, pin in crank pulley, cam alignment tool in ends of cams I'm not happy with the way the holes line up in the exhaust sprocket (see picture). Loosening the chain and moving the cam sprocket sends it too far counterclockwise. There is something here I'm missing or can't figure out. I'd appreciate anybodies help with this!! David

POST 2Original post

Keep the two M6 bolts loose so the sprocket can rotate a bit. Install the chain tensioner and it will take up the slack which will move the sprocket clockwise (as in your picture) and you will be fine. Then tighten up the M6 bolts.

POST 3Original post

I am not sure what procedure you are using, but the factory manual can be found here that would contain the proper procedures yelcab states. https://audipages.com/911/wsm/

POST 4Original post

UKDavo, I can tell you have not disassembled and reassembled a 996 engine before. This is a gutsy project.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah. Well, they say no guts, no glory. BTW I am an ex peninsula resident, Redwood City & La Honda.
