Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

On the facebook market near me there was a guy selling a roof top box and racks for a 996. I was sort of tempted

This guys Instagram is amazing. Im not a camper (unless it is in a hotel) but I love what he does with roof top tent. Looks like he is more than enjoying his 996! Daryll

Finally something positive. Thanks for sharing. Guys my new Porsche hero.

POST 11Original post

Haven't heard it mentioned ground clearance is a real issue with 996s (and all 911s?). Our stock suspension and slightly taller than stock tires scratched under front bumper terribly and broke part of fender liner so we had to build a ramp at bottom of driveway. Commercial driveways are usually more gentle and last night coming down one bottom of front bumper firmly hit the street. We had a recommendation to lower our car so it would look better (and of course handle better) but obviously can't do that and drive in a big city such as Los Angeles or any type of off pavement. 1st gear in a Tiptronic is really low so a VW Vanagon AWD powered by a FSI 3.8 would be a practical go-anywhere vehicle.

What I want to know is how does the roof of the car support the weight of a human being and the tent?

It can support the car upside down without crushing you, so one person and a tent is no prob...

This is what I want to know. What if I have a hardtop cab?
