Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The previous owner of my 99 Carrera 4 replaced the stock exhaust by a "sport exhaust"...I guess it is still made by Porsche...but the sound is a lot more aggressive...love it However, I still want more sound - - as this is my first 911, or Porsche for that matter, I am not sure what options I have. I will be addint an air intake by K&N or the EVO one, but...is it possible to have a shop remove the catalyc converters on hte car to free up some sound and power? I have done this on just about every car that I have owned with very positive results...but I am not very familiar with the set up on this car yet. Has anyone done this on the board? Any feedback? Thanks guys!!

POST 2Original post

I would keep the cats ion place, will get a CEL if you remove them. Will get minor power gains from intake, headers etc, but way better sound. Good luck. I grew up in PV,KS.

POST 3Original post

Want more sound? Want more power (above 4000 RPM at least)? Get some Fabspeed bypass pipes. You really can't ask for more sound.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! Checking into it right now...I assume these are the "equivalent" of straight pipes ?

POST 5Original post

Try FabSpreed...theeirrrrr grrreaaaaaat! (so far). Don't remove the cats...big fine if you get caught.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

no rules in Kansas when it comes to catalyc converters...no inspections. I guess it is not good for the environment, but I donate to save the whales and the dolphins when I go to Peru...so that evens things up. The Fabspeed bypass pipes...they quoted me $ 1700..whoa!!! Just for bypass pipes... I will start with the intake...

POST 7Original post

you just bought something else. bypass should be a lot less about $550

POST 8Original post

the PSE and header combonation sounds really good and REFINED, i dont know about your taste in decibles though...

POST 9Original post

I'll just do headers .. second Gator's suggestion

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

have you ever heard a Z06 with no exhaust and straight pipes... that is my decibel limit...

POST 11Original post

You are looking for the sound that muscle cars make, just run a straight pipe in the 996 and see what you get.

POST 12Original post

I have heard straight pipes in a 911 before... It sounds good I GUESS, but it does not fit the car at all. You hear it and are looking for some big domestic, and its a little porsche cab... To each his own... -Keith

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

careful what you ask for...it is called IncaKola...I consume about 4-6 cans a day...there is no stopping now....
