Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a dilema and need help if anyone can offer advise, thanks so much in advance. I want to purchase a used 996 turbo but don't know which years to stay away from (if any at all) and don't really want to drop 100,000 grand if at all possible. I have found alot of turbos in the $75,000 range. What should i look for when buying one? And also , if I want to spend $75,000 would i be better off buying a 03 or newer 996 or 997 possibly, or are the older turbos still far supperior to any of the newer normally aspirated 911's. Any info would be so greatly appreciated, thanks Dr. Jeremy B.

POST 2Original post

Jeremy....have you posted this on the 996 Turbo forum???

Don't think you'll find alot of '03 or newer TT's in the 75k range. Newer is always better, but a TT is pretty indestructable, I wouldn't worry about an '01 w/o a warranty at all as long as it passed a ppi.

POST 4Original post

If you haven't already, you may want to post a note on the turbo board and do some searches on this site. This is a common question and you will probably find lots of information. I couple of items to note: Some of the early '01's had front bumper "warts" which Porsche removed about mid year. I think the '01's had solid wheels and in '02 they went to the hollow spoke, i.e., lighter. In '02, I think they added the glove box and cup holders. If this is your first Porsche, you should note that on these cars, most everything is an option. So decide what options are important and take your time looking for the right car. These is also an X-50 engine package that adds about 40 HP that was about $17K when purchased new, but only adds about $3-$4K on a used car. You may also want to consider a CPO from a dealer for piece of mind. Lastly, it's well worth the money to have a PPI done at a dealer.

Hey guys, thanks for all the info, I did post on the turbo board as well, they also gave me some info, I wanted opinions of both NA 996 owners as well as the TT ones. Seems like both the turbo and the NA 996's are reliable, does anyone know of any years to completely stay away form either turbo or not?
