I recently sold my Boxster for an 02 996 Cab. I am getting ready to do some maintenance and went to look at the air filter. The air filter was a pain to get to in the Boxster because of everything you had to do to get engine access; however, once there all that held the filter in has 2 clips. I went to the air box on the 996, thinking this will take a second,and found that there must be 8 screws. I did not have the time to get to the filter so I will need to do that this weekend but I was wondering why the 996 did not have some type of clip for quick access. Is it to keep a tighter seal? Surley 2 or even 4 clips would do the same and make it easier. Has anyone lost any of those back screws? Any thoughts? Just ranting I guess.

I imagine the snorkel to the engine lid can get bumped which may shake the upper airbox loose with clips. That's probabably the reason for screws aside from possibly just an older design.

Good question. The 993 utilizes clips on the air box and it also has a retractable spoiler.
