Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, there, trying to find out if anyone 'had' to drive their 996 with one engine mount top bolt (13 mm) missing, trusted too much a brand new torque wrench and cut it in half, was able to pull the other half but this is my daily driver so I don't have many choices unless it's a no-no and find someone to ride along until the new bolt, please any advice will be greatly appreciate it, thanks!

POST 2Original post

That bolt does not bear much load but I would avoid driving the car on very bumpy roads. You can always take one of the bolts to an auto parts store to get a matching one while you're waiting for the genuine bolt.

POST 3Original post

I've had good luck getting metric bolts from Napa. Their main warehouse has a store front and has most everything in stock. I agree with Ahsai. It isn't load bearing. And the other bolt plus the square fitting into the engine bracket will keep it from turning. Take it easy and you should be fine but I wouldn't go too long without replacing it.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the comments, I'm planning on getting a genuine replacement, bought a temporary one but when I screw it in (by hand), it does't go all the way thru so I don't want to force it to fit and maybe damage the thread, I'll be sure to drive this one with care

Thanks! I'll try my local NAPA store tomorrow morning, did some research and I believe this one is part # 900-378-055-01 Hex-head Screw 8x40, genuine part is $10, OUCH

Don't forget to ask for discount, I managed to get some at my (not so local) Porsche dealer, I asked if they would give me a discount as I was a Rennlist Forum member and they gave me something, only a few $'s but better than nothing. Also works at Mazda when I by RX7 oil filters for my Subaru (being a Subaru Forum member in that case)!!!!!
