Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A friend took these shots at Death Valley last weekend. They are not great shots but they are real. There's no image doctoring here and this is the 1st time they've been shown publically. Note the headlights. They don't seem so round....like the 993 but not quite. IMHO I like them. It gives the new 911 an image of its own. Takes away the "trying to be a 993" look. Note also the lights on the boxter (3rd car from left). Those lights look like pre face lift to me. Looks like the original boxter/996 lights.

POST 2Original post

I like these headlights better than the previous spy shots. They look less like a VW or an Benz. Oval lights are OK on the 993, because the 993 had those large front fender humps. But oval lights combined with the sleeker aerodynamic look of the 996/997 would make it look more like a Benz or a flattened VW Beetle.

POST 5Original post

I like this one, as I had mentioned previously the round lights on a sloping nose would have been ugly, these looks great. Wonderful car, if the 20 hp. translates to better performance, will certainly be an improvement over the 996. Great pictures, makes me realize how wonderful it is to be able to view these pictures taken at deathvalley posted in UK, and be one of the few to see it, and I am in dayton ohio. Simply great.

POST 6Original post

What there is more than two, wait I see them now, they blend well with the boxy buildings in the background, i didn't even notice them.

POST 7Original post

It looks good, but whats with that surrounding plastic that looks like were the old lights use to be. I hope they fill it in with an all metal fender on the production model, not fill it in woth plastic painted the same as the car.

POST 8Original post

Nice pics, best I've seen so far of the new nose.

POST 9Original post

It's interesting, but the headlights in these pics look markedly different from other "definitive" 997 photos that have been posted. In the other pics, the headlights are clearly round with no "tear drop" clear plastic piece on the side. The headlights in these pics are much closer to the 996 headlights since they do incorporate a "tear drop", although it appears to be not as large as the ones on the 996 headlights. Oh well, I suppose we'll know for sure wht the car will look like in September when it debuts at the Geneva Auto Show.

POST 10Original post

Hey SCOuser: Can you find out what hotel your friend shot these photos at? We are going to be in Death Valley on Thursday and Friday of next week, so I am hoping to get some spy shots while we are there. That looks like the Furnace Creek Ranch motel, can you confirm? Thanks

POST 11Original post

Look closely at the "tear drop" part of the lights in these pics and you'll see they're just pieces to mimic the 996 lights but don't have the headlight washers or the turn signals that the real 996 lights do.

POST 13Original post

You're right the "tear drops" do look like camoflouge.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
