POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry to be a bit thick boys .......... looks like $68600 base Is that totally tax free ????? thanks

POST 6Original post

gotta think the 05 prices will reflect the strength of the euro over the last year or so.

POST 7Original post

paul-no, it isn't tax free. state sales taxes would be added to it-i think that most states have sales taxes of around 6%. most c2's arrive at the dealership, with options and shipping charges, at a minimum price of about $74,000-tax excluded. most dealers would easily discount that price by 3 or 4 thousand dollars. hope that helps. by the way, a heavily optioned car could go as high as $95,000, tax exluded.

POST 8Original post

$68,600. before taxes is the base Carerra 2 price. I've seen existing inventories discounted $5k. for the coupe.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for your help guys, but what is the USA tax ? I know if you buy a car you pay what I think you call state taxes which seems to be a small amount, but also a main tax ? what % is that in America ? I want to export to England so would pay the taxes there

POST 10Original post

The USA does not have a national sales tax -- we do not have a VAT type tax in the US. You only pay state sales tax on a car. Some states do not have a sales tax at all -- but of those some still tax a car. Some states also make you pay a tax on the value of the car as an asset each year. We are the "United States" -- so each state has its own tax rules. It can and does get quite complex. :{ I have no idea how you would purchase a car for export out of the country -- If you bought it in a state with no tax at all I guess you could then ship it as cargo. You would not be able to drive it without insurance and registration. How would the warr from Prorsche work? TAG

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeldogt, I have bought cars in europe before and you simply buy them tax free and pay tax in the country of registration ie UK, if I buy a car from USA again I can buy it totally tax free and then pay import tax 10% and VAT 17.5% on the total price paid, in europe you register the car on tempory export plates for max 14 days to enable you to drive home, if I buy USA I guess I can have it delivered to the docks and put on boat, or again in europe you can collect the car from the factory, that would be my next trick !!! Just need to know the base price ......

POST 12Original post

I do understand what you are talking about -- I have shipped one box and whole containers to the USA. I also have taken delivery of a car in Germany. When you take delivery of a car in Germany -- it is all done for you. You just aim the car and fly home. Porsche is not going to help you out FROM the USA. In europe everyone knows how to ship - from small shop owners on up. I may be wrong but i do not think you will find many dealers who do this very often! Yes you can get temp registrations -- but I have not tried to get temp Insurance in the USA. This is interesting and I wish I knew the whole process when it is a car!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The US dealers / european dealers have no choice but to sell you a car, free trade and all that, I may not need road insurance if delivered to the docks So is the base price $68600 plus local taxes or a lot less than that ?

POST 14Original post

You should just try to e-mail a few dealers - they may or not give you a final price! The base price is correct -- plus the delivery charge. As stated before in the forums you could get it for a few thousand less than sticker. I have never seen a base car with no options. So they would all sticker for more than base -- because of the options. I forget how much prosche delivery charge is: -- $795.00 - I think?

POST 15Original post

paul-read what people are writing you. the base price of 68.6 is exclusive of state taxes. so, in summary, in the united states, you pay the base price, plus the transportation price (about $700), plus the cost of the options, plus the state sales tax of the state that you live in (usually about 6%). that is it.

POST 16Original post

First, if you buy the car for export you will not have any tax on it. You can't drive it here and arrangements would have to be made for shipping through a common carrier, but the state sales taxes can be avoided in this way. Second, the dealers aren't getting many basic C2's with few options; they turn up now and then but most of the inventory these days is highly optioned. Third, you would have to make sure Porsche North America's dealer agreements would allow them to sell a car for export - I don't know the answer but I suspect they can't sell for export. However, if that was a problem, you could probably buy one in a no or low sales tax state for delivery there (that way the dealer doesn't care if you turn around and export it).

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just for the record Guys and to show you how lucky you are over there the UK price for std C2 is 57000 on the road ($102000) So if USA base is $68600 (38111) even with import duty and VAT Tax payable on UK entry of 10% and 17.5% respectfully its still about 5K $9K cheaper. not really the numbers I was looking for but still worthwhile. And you boys get all the sunshine !!! Well some of you. Regards

POST 18Original post

yes paul-but you get to go to italy easily to have dinner.

POST 19Original post

Paul and others, just to show you how lucky you guys are, C2 has a base price of 123400, $150215 or 82567 here in Finland taxes included. I look forward to buying one in the near future. Yachts are nearly tax free though, not that it helps much. Cheers, Ville
