Does anyone know of a low cost scanner for diagnosing CE lights? I'd like to have one for fun, and to save myself the $90 I get charged even if it's only a lose gas cap... Thanks, BL

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I must have the greatest dealer in the world... I showed up unannounced at Pepe Porsche and told that my top wasn't able to go down while moving. They hooked the car up to the computer, fooled around with some settings and got me going. I gave the mechanic 20 bucks for helping me out. To think some places would charge you for such petty crap is really disturbing. I asked the guy how much the ODBII computer was that they used (touch screen) and he said it was about 7 grand new... but they were getting in the III... hmmm. I would love to get one of those used, maybe I'll call my dealer and see what he wants for it
I have an Auto X Ray scanner and it works great. You need to know what the codes mean and you can download from the internet a list. I had the same problem; loose gas cap and MAF also. They cost around $300 and make sure you get the model that hooks to the internet through your computer so you can upgrade the software on the scanner.
harbor freight has one for about 40 bucks. not the greatest but it will list the common codes and they have a book that has a list of them all
