Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys I'm thinking of purchasing a Valentine 1 and am unsure if the factory window tint on a 996 affects the detectors ability...does anyone have any experience of this and if so how does one counteract it. Thanks Donny J

POST 2Original post

http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt2.asp has good report. I found even in tint area, I still have ample notification.

POST 3Original post

This issue has been brought up a gazillion times. That being said, I agree with MO that tint still allows for enough notice.

POST 4Original post

CAR MAIN AREA TINT BAND 1998 Porsche Boxster 28% 28% I would guesss the 996 is the same.

POST 5Original post

Simple. Call Mike Valentine at Valentine 1. He will gladly talk to you and tell you everything you need to know about different types of tint and effects. Mike also owns and has owned many Porsches so he has practical experience too. Get the number on his website and ask to speak to him. Walt

POST 6Original post

Excellent thread! So what I would conclude from reading all this, is that a system that is permanently mounted in the car (in the grille) will have at least 25% greater range that an in cabin system.

POST 7Original post

well - maybe yes...maybe no. with the receiver in the grill, i'd bet that your warning range would but shorter than the receiver up high behind the windshield. while the receiver wouldn't be 'blocked' by any of the window tinting, it would be lower to the ground and obstructed by more things - like other cars. higher is usually better. think about it - you can see farther the higher you are - so can the detector.
