Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

With permision from the owner, I took this picture of 996 GT3 at VIR last month. I was just amaze with the scheme. You guys have probably seen this but the owner said it's made of vinyl and applied it like a big sticker

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was drooling all over this car.

POST 5Original post

Is that a real GT3 Cup car? Dunno, looks like a modified street 996. No air jacks, different mirrors, seats, etc. Here's what a Cup car looks like:

POST 6Original post

Cool artwork, I like how the Porsche Crest is worked in. Also w/permission....... Got to Drive this '04 thru Elkhart Lake from the Track @ Road America this past Labor days Club Race, right behind one of the Racers' Group Cars I just had to keep it under 7500 rpm's Bill Hope this comes out OK, I tried to resize.

POST 8Original post

I've seen that car up close and personal at VIR. The vinyl graphics were done by a commercial sign company in SC. A 3 day install and cost of about $3500 if I remember correctly. It's owned by the owner for Porsche of Greenville, SC. You guys are right, it is a heavily modified 996 C2 aerokit car, not a GT3 and definitely not a Cup car. The owner also has a Cup car but it has a different color scheme. Karl

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I stand corrected. Please excuse my ignorance on the 996 I just named the pictures I took cup__cars 'cause the other car that the owner have had this big "cup" name painted on the side. Are you guys saying that that's not even a GT3? Here's a picture of the other one...

POST 10Original post

Carrera Mike: Don't feel bad, there were lots of reports of GT3s being seen on the road before PCNA released them at the end of July because of the AeroKit II for the '03 996. Some external GT3 Cup clues are the air jack fitting on the front hood and the wheel hubs are a center lock design rather than having 5 bolts. As you can see from the picture Viken posted the newer GT3 Cup cars do have an air vent at the top of the front bumper but that bumper is not the GT2 style as on your first picture. If the engine lid is open the GT3 motor looks a lot different than a standard 996 and the Cup cars usually have a cone style air filter that says GT3 Cup.

POST 11Original post

Nope, it started life as a 996 C2. It's been upgraded with a GT3 RS brakes and suspension, but the engine and tranny are standard 996 parts. It may have the X51 package, I can't remember if it does or not. I'm hoping I will see these guys at Roebling Road tomorrow. Karl
